Vancouver Olympics is just around the corner and you can hear the hustle and bustle from Alberta. You can hear all the excitement and tribulations. 2010 will not only be hosting the 2010 Olympics, they are also asking for artists to show their Art pieces. Everyone around the world we being Vancouver and looking for a souvenir to take home with them.
And what better way then utilizing your purchase by making it an investment at the same time. That is the beauty of Art – it is an investment that makes your money grow.
The 95% of artists that are poor ( including me) will look forward to the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
Northwest Native Art on the coast of British Columbia, Canada is surrounded by large cedar trees. These cedar trees have been around since Captain Vancouver found British Columbia, thinking he was in the middle east…not!
The original natives were Haida tribe that was unfortunately is no longer around due to European settlers bring their chicken pox and other diseases along with them.
What real interests me about the Northwest Natives were their use of the resources around them. They did not waste any food that they caught. Can you imagine going after a Killer whale in a small cedar canoe hollowed out for approximately eight men. Sometimes they didn’t survive.
Their homes were made of cedar slabs and they had appointed artists handed down from generation to generation. These Haida Tribe had great respect for their animal life. Each animal had a power or a interesting Legend of how each animal came to be.
The most interesting one is the Thunderbird – has anyone seen a Thunderbird…no? Why ?
I will leave that up to you to answer that question yourself.
I love to draw the eagle, wolf,Thunderbird,Killer whale, whale and the great white bear – a very powerful medicine.
With the right direction we can also use our resources in a rightful respected use. We do not respect our resources.
For example the cedar trees have to be protected from loggers and so many people have been sent to jail because they wanted to protect our resources.
Question : Do we have the right to destroy, for mans thirst of money? I don’t think so. We should start living within our land like the natives did in the past. Respect our fishing and hunting privileges.
We are part of the ecological cycle and therefore we should hunt for food and use every part of that animal. Respect our great fortune of being able to have food on the table. Yes. That means thanking God – the one and only.
I know very little people will read this column. It baffles me to read the popular headlines of the day…not of knowledge.
Just gabbing on the internet with their friends. Knowledge is your resource of a better “You”, so why not learn the history and culture of our past?
We just might learn something new….oh what a thought. Well, to finish this blog off I would like to ask of all of you to buy my Limited Art Pieces at 201Art – because this is what I love to do and this kind of art won’t be along for very long. Take advantage of an Northwest Coast Native Art piece – it just may be worth millions by your Grand children.
Or – if I am one of the lucky ones ( ha ha ha ) I may be rich now. A rich artist is far and few between.
Ok..enough gabbing and go to my website http://201art.com and buy a print right now -and I would like to thank you ahead for your support.
Cheers!
